It is native to South America and can grow to 4 meters or around 13 feet high. It is popular for its golden yellow and orange flowers that are borne in elongated clusters at the tips of the stems. These clusters are borne on hairy stalks and contain numerous densely crowded flowers. It flowers during late autumn, winter and spring.
Its leaves are commonly used to treat ringworm and other skin diseases. It's anti-fungal properties make it a common ingredient in soaps, shampoos and lotions. Other common names include Christmas candle, ringworm bush and candelabra bush.
